Getting one last meet before the playoffs start, Decorah’s swim and dive team had a strong performance Tuesday in a triangle with Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids Jefferson in Cedar Falls. Decorah edged Cedar Rapids Jefferson 99 to 86 and fell to Cedar Falls 135 to 51.
The Vikings won only one gold medal in the 1 meter diving event. Kailyn O’Gara scored 190.05 points to claim first place.
Four other events won silver, while two others took bronze. Julia Alberts hit the wall in 2:06.35 in the 200-yard freestyle for second place. Paige Werner won second and third place individually. The senior was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.48 seconds and clocked 58.75 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, good for third place.
The 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relays also won silver. Werner, Maeley Nefzger, Katerina Kovarik and Alberts were members of both relays. In the shortest event, the foursome clocked 1:48.38, in the longest event 3:58.88, and finished the evening in second place. Nefzger won individual bronze in the 100-yard backstroke clocking 1:09.71.
Decorah will host the conference meeting on Saturday, October 15 at Luther College at noon.
