Local bartenders and mixologists are dusting off their coupes and busting out the flutes in anticipation of the return of the Set bar cocktail contest October 23 at Ed Smith Stadium. Hosted by the Sarasota-Manatee Originalsa collaboration of over 60 local restaurants, the contest is a spirited celebration of all things, well, spirits.

“Set the Bar was created as a fun platform to showcase the tremendous talent in our local bar programs,” said Kim Davis, executive director of Sarasota-Manatee Originals, in a press release. “Our local bartenders are an integral part of today’s service industry.”

During the contest, the bartenders’ creations will be sampled and judged by a panel of experts, who will rate each drink on flavor, appearance, imagination and presentation. Event attendees will also have access to these inventive libations, which will include spirits from local and regional distilleries and light bites to soak up the day’s festivities.

This year, winners will receive a presentation plaque, a gift basket valued at over $250 and bragging rights of being “the best”.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale for $75 per person. Proceeds from the event will benefit a local non-profit organization Children first.
