LEXINGTON, Kentucky (January 14, 2022) the University of Kentucky Appalachian Center and Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement are delighted to announce that the AppalachiaCorps program will continue in the summer of 2022.

ApppalachiaCorps connects students with organizations in Eastern Kentucky and the greater Appalachian region, providing them with a summer internship opportunity focusing on their career goals. Participants will gain valuable leadership and networking skills during this internship, preparing them for future jobs and internships.

In the past, students have completed internships at organizations such as the Appalachian Citizens Law Center, Highlands Museum & Discovery Center, Pikeville Medical Center, and Livelihoods Knowledge Exchange Network (LiKEN).

“After a very successful 2021 summer internship program, we are excited to once again offer student internship opportunities through our AppalachiaCorps program,” said Kathryn Engle, Ph.D., director of the Appalachian Center in the United Kingdom. United. “Interested students should visit our website and complete an inquiry and attend one of our information meetings. Organizations interested in hosting a student should also submit an application form on our website.

The Appalachian Center has information meetings coming up in a few weeks and is currently taking ask for information students. Participation in the program is on a first-come, first-served basis and preference will be given to students who can make their own arrangements with host organizations.

The first information session will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31 at The Center of Appalachia, located at 624 Maxwelton Court. There will also be a Zoom Options.

Additional information sessions will take place February 15, March 28 and April 11.

The internship program is available to all UK undergraduate and graduate students in good standing. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students can come from any discipline. Students from the UK College of Arts and Sciences, Appalachia region, who are first generation and those working under the federal work-study program are strongly encouraged to apply.
