Raleigh County native Terri Hale has been promoted to managing director of the Register-Herald, Bluefield Daily Telegraph and Times West Virginian at Fairmont.

A seasoned newspaper executive, she is currently the Director of Advertising for Newspapers, which is owned by parent company CNHI, LLC.

“Terri is a talented and experienced press manager who has demonstrated excellent leadership qualities,” said Fred Scheller, CNHI Regional Manager. “His ability to adapt to changes in the industry is remarkable and will allow us to continue to operate a profitable, community-focused newspaper.”

Hale’s newspaper career began at the Register-Herald in 1979 when former publisher Frank Wood hired her to work in the advertising department.

“I wanted a place where I could have a career and longevity,” Hale said. “The journal is such a part of people’s daily lives and Frank gave me an opportunity.”

From 1980 to 1995, she held advertising management positions at the Record-Herald before becoming advertising manager for the Daily Telegraph in Bluefield, then regional advertising manager for CNHI newspapers in Kentucky as well as Virginia- Western.

She was appointed to her current position as advertising director for The Register-Herald, Daily Telegraph and Times West Virginian in 2016.

Hale said she’s excited about her expanded role as chief executive of the three newspapers and plans to strengthen their ties to the communities they serve.

“I look forward to meeting new people and seeing what we can do to help newspapers make our communities a better place to live, work, do business and play,” Hale said.

The newspaper industry has seen significant changes in technology and audiences since Hale began her career 43 years ago, but she said the core mission of providing news and advertising content from value to readers has not changed.

“Like so many other businesses, we are adapting and changing,” she said. “My responsibility is to improve our local newspapers for our readers and to help the community be heard in this commitment.”

Hale and her husband John have been married for 43 years. They have a son and three grandchildren.
