Police report thefts of catalytic converters in Middletown last night

The Middletown Police Department said there were six attempts to steal catalytic converters from multiple vehicles in the Middletown area last night, as first reported by News12 New Jersey. Four of the attempts were successful. The targeted vehicles were mostly Hondas, authorities said.

Daniel Feliciano of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown said the thieves were trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car last night when an officer on patrol in the area saw three suspects escaping in a BMW. When the officer returned to the scene, there was evidence that there may have been a saw failure because the thieves had failed and the catalytic converter had been left hanging by a wire.

In North Middletown, Christopher Greiss was also the victim of theft. He told News12 New Jersey, “I have a Rottweiler and Ring camera, and that’s not enough. My room is about 15 feet from where it happened and I didn’t hear a thing.

Police say the suspect vehicle is a dark colored BMW. They ask residents to be alert and to call them if they hear or see anything suspicious, especially during the night.
