An opening reception will be held on Thursday, June 2 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Diane St. Jean and Ron St. Jean are two artists who have always supported each other, but never more so than in recent years when they both discovered the joy of working with ink on paper.

Pink Street, Stonington

Diane has developed a body of work that includes letterpress plates and linocut engraving. “In this exhibition, I show linocuts from my Family Album series,” says Diane. “These prints are based on family photographs dating back 80 to 100 years. I used the long, slow process of sculpting and printing linocut portraits to deepen my connection with my subjects. The letterpress pieces in the exhibit were printed on one of three vintage or antique St. Jeans presses using lead or wood.

Ron has been a professional photographer for many years and in this exhibition he features photogravure images. Photogravure is a process by which the artist creates the image on a steel plate coated with photopolymer sensitive to UV light, which is then inked and printed on moistened 100% cotton paper under the strong pressure of a press. to engrave. “These images reflect my admiration for human subjects, my love of landscape, and my appreciation for the serendipity of found objects,” says Ron.

All exhibit pieces were printed one by one by the artist. In printmaking, whether letterpress, linocut or photogravure, variations from print to print are a hallmark of the artisanal nature of the work.
