The Association of Sister Towns of La Cañada Flintridge announces the holiday season with a live ‘Joy to the World’ event on December 11 at 11 a.m., featuring the music and holiday traditions of La Cañada Flintridge and its sister city, Villanueva de la Cañada in Spain.
“Joy to the World” will feature the Chamber Singers from La Cañada High School, under the direction of Jeff Brookey. They will be joined by the Kolbe School Choir, performing holiday selections from Spain conducted by director José María Álvarez.
In addition to performances by the choir, the event will showcase holiday traditions. Mayor Terry Walker will stream from Stephen and Elysa DelGuercio’s home and share a holiday punch recipe while Sheri Morton will demonstrate traditional holiday cookie decorating. From Villanueva de la Cañada, Mayor Luis Partido will explain the Spanish Roscón de Reyes cake and demonstrate hot chocolate and churros, a Christmas specialty. Gina Ricci, member of the sister cities leadership team, will translate from Spanish to English.
The CFL Sister Cities Association was incorporated as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation in early 2016. The city and its members generously provide leadership and funding to help send high school students to the annual International Youth Leaders Summit. Sister Cities. In 2017, they started facilitating student exchanges with the sister city of Villanueva de la Cañada, a community in Madrid, Spain.
The event is free and open to the community. Sign up for the link to the livestream on lcfsistercities.org. Current and new members can select and receive a bag of holiday treats from Spain, if they register by December 6. Candy bags can be picked up that day from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
