The International Cyclocross Series Returns to North America
USCX Series Expands to Three Months in Four Host Cities
The United States has a long but inconsistent history of top-level competitive cyclocross series. Some of the best known series include the Saturn Supercup from 1999 to 2002 and the USGP Cyclocross series from 2004 to 2012. We have also seen the NACT series and the US Cup CX attempt to connect promoters and be the prestige of a racing group.
The USCX Cyclocross series continues the history of the American cyclocross series. For 2022, the organizers have revealed the races for the series. The four-race series will return to North America for the second year with two new races added to the series.
However, there are some caveats regarding the additional races added. Jingle Cross, which was canceled and Kings CX were dropped from the 2022 series.
Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross presented by Deschutes Brewery and the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross were both recently upgraded to UCI Class 1 status for 2022 and will complete the schedule and round out the series.
The series spans three months in four cities. Four cities whose cyclocross history is thick and rich, like the mud under the tires on race day.
New for 2022, the USCX series has committed to an overall purse of $15,000. The scholarship will be divided equally at $7,500 for men and $7,500 for women.
The series reformatted its points structure to give extra points to the top 3 finishers in each race. The series points and leader board will be hosted on uscx.us throughout the series for all elite and amateur athletes competing.
The final stages of negotiations are underway to create a live broadcast for each event.
“Offering live streaming of all UCI Elite USCX races is a step in the right direction for the series,” says Meehan.
“Our overall goal is to deliver four premier race weekends for elites and amateurs alike in the amazing sport of cyclocross,” Page said. “We want to give these incredible athletes the platform they need, and we believe the integration of these four events achieves that.”
The USCX cyclocross series schedule begins in Roanoke, Virginia at Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross September 17 and 18, then travels to Rochester, NY for the second event in the series, Rochester Cyclocross on September 24-25. The series then moves on to Charm City in Baltimore, Maryland the following weekend of October 1 and 2 and concludes five weeks later in Falmouth Massachusetts at Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross on November 5 & 6.
The USCX Cyclocross Series will feature some of the best male and female cyclocross riders in the world. Race organizers expect professional riders from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States. United. All events plan to have food trucks, beer gardens, music, professional announcers and children’s activities. Covid-19 protocols will be in place at each event based on each state’s requirements and guidelines – please check each event’s website for details.
