New community programs for children, teens and seniors started this month and registration is open. The City of Scarborough Community Services Department is excited to provide after-school and early learning programs for children as the school year begins again. It’s a great opportunity for your children to start exploring their interests, learning skills, and developing social connections outside of the classroom. Many programs started in early September, but it’s not too late to register! All programs are described in detail in our fall digital brochure on our website.
A new pre-K enrichment program has been developed after growing demand and will be launched for the first time this fall. Our Pluvier program is open to children aged 4 and 5 entering kindergarten during the 2022-23 school year. The program will work toward the social, physical and academic skills needed for kindergarten in a combination of free time games and group activities. It will take place Monday through Friday morning at the Community Services Hub. We only have a few spots left!
Some of the recreational programs for K-8 students include Cross Country, Youth Disc Golf Clinic, Lego Building Programs, Fall Drama Program, and Skateboard Clinics. casters. Prices, location, age ranges and times vary by program. Find all the details in the Community Services digital fall brochure. As programs are added throughout the season, the digital brochure will also evolve. If a program, trip or activity appears in this brochure, it means it is ready for registration, either online, by phone or in person. We will announce via the Community Services Facebook page and mass email through our signup system when new programs are added.
Senior programs for those aged 55 and over are also scheduled from September to November and registration is open. The Hub is a convenient centralized location (418 Payne Road in Scarborough) with many opportunities for flexible use of space to accommodate a variety of programs. Visit us for drop-in games and get-together days on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., crafts with friends on select dates, and weekly lunches on Wednesdays (pre-registration required). There are also plenty of trips planned, with destinations including the Fryeburg Fairgrounds, Libby & Sons U-Pick Apple Orchard, and the Maine Minerals and Gems Museum.
