the University Communications Office is pleased to announce that Howard Magazine has won three Folio 2021: Eddie and Ozzie Awards this fall.

The Folio Awards are hosted by Folio, a New York-based business magazine focused on publishing industry trends, and brings together some of the best publications from the country and the world. Nominations were announced last August and the awards ceremony took place on October 14, 2021. Print and digital magazines and newsletters from all segments have been recognized for their writing and design, including consumers, businesses, industry, nonprofits, universities and more.

The magazine has won the following awards:

  • Best Cover, “Madam VP”, by Seattle Ellison (BA ’17);

  • Best magazine redesign, spring 2021;

  • Best Single Article, “Overcoming Trial by Tribulation” by Katti Gray, on Howard’s participation in a COVID-19 vaccine trial; and

  • Honorable Mention, Best Profile, “Vernon Jordan: The Connector” by Seth Shapiro.

Rin-rin Yu is the editor-in-chief of Howard magazine which began her role in January 2021. She has since produced the fall issue as well as the upcoming winter issue.

“Howard, as a university, has reached new heights in recent years, and the magazine is one of the primary communication vehicles to the public to illustrate this tremendous growth,” said Frank Tramble, MP, vice-president of the university communications office. “I am very proud of our team’s dedication to developing the magazine and continue to ensure that it accurately reflects the direction of our university and all of its accomplishments, milestones and the stories of our community on and off campus. ”
