Gunmen abducted Chief Nengak Ropshak, the elder brother of a former People’s Democratic Party’s Plateau State gubernatorial candidate, Kefas Ropshak, alias Kefiano.
It was learned that Elder Ropshak was abducted by gunmen who attacked his Rin community in the state’s Quaapan local government area on Saturday.
Community residents who confirmed the attack told The PUNCH in Jos on Sunday that Ropshak’s kidnappers had made contact with his family members and were demanding N100 million as a ransom.
The People’s Democratic Party, in a statement, said it was shocked by this development.
The statement signed by the party’s publicity secretary, John Akans, read in part: “The Plateau State branch of the People’s Democratic Party received with sadness the news of the kidnapping of Chief Nengak Ropshak of the local government of Rin Ngas Quanpan.
“Chief Nengak is the elder brother of His Excellency, Chief Kefas Ropshak (Kefiano), aspiring to the governorship in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party.
“We are shocked and saddened by the abduction of Nde Nengak Ropshak who was kidnapped from his community home when the criminals invaded the area firing sporadically and eventually captured him to an undisclosed destination, who now demand a ransom of 100 million naira.
“We call on the Plateau State government to immediately take responsibility by putting an end to these ongoing kidnappings and killings of innocent citizens by criminals.
“Our prayers are with the family at this time, especially Chief Kefas Ropshak over this horrific and unfortunate incident.
“May the Lord give you strength to overcome. »
Plateau State Police Command spokesman Alabo Alfred could not be reached for comment on the abduction as his phones were off at the time of filing this report.
