This is Maverick Helicopters pilot and instructor Matthew Olson’s favorite week. “If you ever walk into this place during Electric Daisy Carnival, you’d have no idea we’re going to the Grand Canyon,” he laughs. “It transformed to look like the Speedway. I flew to EDC – it will be number 7. You see the artists who come to play at 7 or 8 in the evening, then next year they play at 11, then the next year they ‘re headlining the main stage. Martin Garrix, Zedd, Tiësto, Calvin Harris, Armin van Burren, Paul Oakenfold, Marshmello, DJ Snake, gotta fly all these guys.

It would make sense that EDC week would be Olson’s favorite. The California native grew up studying music, especially classical drums, even earning his BA in music. But after college, he decided to change direction and pursue a lifelong passion. “Deep down, I always wanted to be a pilot,” he says. He enrolled in a flight school in Colorado, realized he liked flying helicopters instead of airplanes, racked up his flying hours (Olson has about 4,400), and in 2014, he joined Maverick as a pilot. in 2018, he added instructor to his title.

“I met people from all over the world, from countries I didn’t even know I would meet someone: Mongolia, Tahiti, Ivory Coast,” he says. “It shows that Vegas attracts people from all over the world. You are now part of their vacation, their moments of transition, if you will. You definitely make an impact… They’re going to remember the Strip, the activities you do in the city that really enrich your vacation here, and that’s that company and what we do.

And EDC Week is no exception. “With the vibe going on here, the vibe at (Speedway) – you’re involved in something completely different and now you’re part of one of the biggest music festivals of the year,” says Olson. .
