MENDOCINO, CA – The Mendocino Art Center celebrates the creativity of its member artists with the annual Members Jury Exhibit, January 7 through February 26, at the art centre’s three galleries. The selection process leads to an exceptionally creative, high quality and much anticipated gallery showcasing a wide range of new artwork including paintings, ceramics, sculptures, collages, wearable art, photographs , etc.

This year, artists have had the opportunity to create art in any theme they wish and / or submit works related to the book arts – prints of all types, calligraphy, bookmaking, fabrication. of paper, poetry, etc. – in collaboration with Book Arts Mendocino (BAM). This year’s exhibition is presented by a jury of Mendocino Coast artists Felicia Rice and Pamela Hahn.

There will be a free reception on the second Saturday of the gallery, January 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the opportunity to meet the exhibiting member artists and view the award-winning works of art. At 4:00 p.m., a free artist talk with Theresa Whitehill will open with an introduction by Felicia Rice of Moving Parts Press and a key organizer of Book Arts Mendocino. Whitehill, who recently presented an edition of prints titled “Waves Rolling In” at the Mendocino Art Center, will talk about his involvement in this collaborative project with local artist Josh Pierson in the mid-1980s and his time at the helm. of Mendocino Art The centre’s typography studio, Gray’s Trousers Press, which was located in the Mendocino Theater Company building.

Book Arts Mendocino is a series of exhibitions and presentations, lectures and readings, workshops and demonstrations devoted to the wide and varied arts of the book. Over 20 events and exhibitions take place on the coast in January and February.
