ALPENA — Alpena’s professional artist Erwin P. Lewandowski is featured in the April issue of American Art Collector magazine.

John O’Hern, Santa Fe editor for the magazine and one of the nation’s leading art-collecting writers, selected Lewandowski’s drawing from “Falling Water III” for a special feature. “The Magic of Water” is part of an annual Collector’s Series: Seascapes, Rivers and Lakes, which focuses on artists working with waterscapes.

“John’s request to use one of my designs came from my agent gallery in Boulder, Colorado,” Lewandowski explained in a press release. “The gallery was not comfortable sharing the image without my permission and forwarded the ruling request to me. I arranged to send a high resolution photo of the artwork to the author with the sentiment that my image would probably play a small part in the article.

Drawing ended up playing a more central role.

“When my copy of the magazine arrived, I quickly turned to the article and was totally surprised by the layout,” Lewandowski said. “To see my colored pencil drawing spread over two full pages and featured as the focus of the article was amazing. It’s really special to see a drawing created in 2008 suddenly come to life again.

Lewandowski is honored that his art was chosen.

“I was also touched to learn that the writer has decided to share my ad on social media with his Facebook friends and collector clients,” he said. “What a fantastic honor to be singled out in American Art Collector magazine and to see the writer take a personal interest in the artwork.”

Lewandowski is one of 80 international realism artists selected for the upcoming Grandmasters of Fine Art 2022 online exhibition. The program was established in 2015 to showcase artists from around the world who specialize in creating realistic art forms. The event is organized by Beatrice Cloate, founder and painter from the UK, with David Poxon, international watercolourist from London.

Lewandowski and his wife Mary reside along the Lake Huron shoreline in Alpena. To learn more about the artist, visit his website at www.erwinplewandowski.com.
