Pleasant Valley, El Dorado County, CA (January 13, 2022) According to Carrie and Josh Bendick, winemakers at Holly’s Hill Vineyards. To honor the incomparable landscape that surrounds the winery, Holly’s Hill has unveiled new label art that manifests both the rustic beauty of the region and its wine lands.

The first grapes were planted at Holly’s Hill in 1998 by Rhone enthusiasts and Carrie’s parents, Tom and Holly Cooper. Holly’s Hill, located in the Pleasant Valley region of the El Dorado AVA, is now well-respected for its Rhone-focused vineyards and the wines crafted by Carrie and Josh’s husband-and-wife team.

The label art is taken from a linocut image by artist Katherine Case of Reno, Nevada, who has long captured woodlands in his work. Made with linoleum, linocuts resemble woodcuts, but since linoleum has no grain, linocuts can produce a wider variety of effects. The resulting Holly’s Hill label resembles a hand-carved sculpture. Reminiscent of vintage national park postcards and tourist brochures, the new label depicts the view from the winery of pine-lined vineyards and the Cosumnes River valley as a backdrop. Important to the Coopers and Bendicks, the image honors three generations of hikers, fishers, campers and skiers who revere the area’s mountains. “This project was so personal to us that the final art had to communicate the down to earth side of our home, our family, and the way we approach our vineyards and winemaking – with old world and wild land sensibilities,” explains Carrie Bendick.

While overseeing the label redesign, the Bendicks took months to assess what they represent and how their wines and the winery visitor experience are perceived. Carrie adds, “Observing our guests in the tasting room, we realized they were handling the labels as much as they were looking at them. Texture, fit and richness of color had to matter. The ridges, or cuts in the final art, provide the tactile piece of the label, conveying the vibrancy of the El Dorado wine region.

Holly’s Hill fans can now view the new label on the winery’s 2020 vintage Rhône red wines in the tasting room located at 3680 Leisure Lane, Placerville, CA. These wines are the 2020 vintage of Grenache Noir, Carignane, Mourvèdre Classique and Counoise – all under $30. Holly’s Hill wines are available in the tasting room and cellar club as well as online at
