According to Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz, April 2022 was colder and drier than historical averages. There were 20 days last month with below-average high temperature, with the average temperature being 43.8 degrees – 3.4 degrees lower than the historical average. The hottest temperature recorded for the month was 76 degrees reached on April 23. The coldest temperature was 21 degrees on April 17.
Rainfall totals last month were 2.25 inches, 0.85 inches below average. There were nine days with measurable precipitation, which is exactly average. The highest 24-hour rainfall total was 16mm on April 22.
Compared to April 2022, 104 Aprils were warmer, 24 were colder, 85 were wetter, and 43 were drier. April 2022 is the fourth month of the last 12 with below-average monthly temperature, and it is the ninth month of the last 12 that has been drier than average.
